We understand many people are researching the cost of building an ADU or JADU in San Diego. People often refer to average cost to build per square foot, but this can vary based on size and layout. We wanted to provide our potential clients with a more accurate projection of what it would cost to build their ADU. So we have estimated a few floor plans and update this information every few months. Below are rough budgets based on the San Diego County Standard ADU plans, showing what it would cost for us to build that floor plan for you as either a finish shell or a finish shell with standard installation.

Finish Shell versus Standard Installations

At Woolsey Construction, we want to be flexible and meet the service needs of different clients, so we offer a range of finishes starting with finish shell construction. Finish shell construction are projects where our team completes all the structural and architectural components of your project, including taking your project through planning, drawings, permitting, and construction. From pouring the foundation and framing, up to plumbing, electrical, and drywall. 

The next level of finish is a finish shell with standard installations. This includes the structural, plumbing, and electrical of the finish shell, in addition to installation of what we consider standard amenities (e.g., toilet, shower, doors, flooring, paint, baseboards, etc.). We have included cost projections for both levels of finish for each of the ADU floor plans featured below.

Our luxury and custom construction services are not included in these cost projections because custom projects are unique in design and architecture. There is no way for us to forecast the cost of a luxury build without drawings and designs. 

Please keep in mind these numbers are based on average cost of material and labor, market prices and material availability fluctuate daily. The example budgets below are not as accurate as getting a personalized estimate for your project. Building costs vary widely based on specific features of your property, location, material cost and availability, and utility tie-in.
